“I think in a sense, you always love someone, I don’t believe that any amount of distance, silence or time can break the bond between two hearts. I believe that once you find love with someone, that stays with you - forever. But the hard truth of that is, forever is infinite and that means they can treasure your love and kiss your lips until their very last breath, or.. the version we’re most familiar with, they can rip your heart right out of your chest and kick it to the curb without even giving your eyes a second look. And that my darling, is the harsh reality of love, it’s infinite. Whether you want it to be or not, it never goes away once you find it.”

When I was younger, I always thought there was something romantic and inspiring about fighting for the one you love and trying to win them back. But as I sit here, broken and lost, I’ve come to realise that there is absolutely nothing amazing about trying to convince someone to love you back.

“Do you regret it?” She asked. “What?” He replied. “I don know.” Her voice shook. “Everything.” He was quiet for a long moment. Heat flooded her cheeks. She opened her mouth to tell him to forget she asked, but finally he said, “Just because we didn’t work out doesn’t mean you weren’t the best thing that ever happened to me. Because you were.” “Yeah,” she said with glistening eyes. “You, too.”

“I think he could’ve loved me,” she said, “perhaps if we met at a different time, when I wasn’t touching 18 and he wasn’t almost 20… perhaps if we met when our lives were less chaotic, we might’ve made it. But back then it seemed like I was too much and not enough at the same time.”

“I don’t regret him,” she says, “The only thing I regret is not being kinder while we still had time. That’s all. I wish I had told him he was worth the Earth and that the stars shine brighter in his eyes than they do in the night sky. I regret not telling him that I loved him. I wish I had reminded him of it every day and night. That’s the thing. You always forget to remind people when you think you’ll have them forever.”

“There’s an old saying which reads “You will fall in love with someone who does not love you, for not loving someone who did.” Maybe there is a law after all, a law of nature. Like gravity. An unwritten axiom that governs our emotional dealings. What you do to people comes back to you with twice the force. You see, perhaps we are not punished for our sins, but by them.”
